The Alpe Adria cycle path follows the old railway line, completed in 1879, which connected Vienna to Venice.
Along this historic road, during the Great War, the Austro-Hungarian military built emplacements for cannons in caves, trenches and barracks for the troops. The line was also used to supply the first line and an armored train ran along it in the section between Tarvisio and Ugovizza. Even today you can see and visit the remains of the existing stations along the cycle path. In some sections you can enjoy a beautiful panorama of the Malborghetto Fort and the mountains where the border line passed.
